A Regency inclined equinoctial compass dial by Robert Bancks, circa 1820
The silvered brass instrument engraved Banks Strand London, with inset silvered compass dial with bubble levels, hinged latitude arc and hour ring, supported on three levelling screw feet, in original fitted mahogany case -- 7in. (18 cm) wide; 5.1/2in. (14 cm) high (extended); the hour ring -- 6.1/8in. (15.5 cm) diameter; the case -- 7.3/4in. (19.7 cm) wide.
Condition: Minor discolouration of the original lacquer to brass consistent with age. Tarnishing to the silvering on the hour dial (not rubbed). No other obvious issues, in good working order.
